Profile
Mahendra
Patel took interest in oriental carpets in 1973 and started working as
a salesman.
He acquired experience in all aspects of the industry including selling,
valuations, cleaning, stretching, restorations and also the technique
of dying all types of yarns-including silk.
After dealing in antique carpets of all types and sizes of decorative
rugs, kelims, trible pieces and soumacs, replacement of antique rugs and
carpets became more and more difficult. Through this period Mahendra specialized
in restoration of antique Agra carpets for dealers all over the world.
In 1994 Mahendra travelled to India to realize the 'New Indian Agra Carpet'
which became famous in the same town that hosts the world famous Taj Mahal
monument. Being able to speak 6 Indian sub-continental languages, aided
reviving the authentic art of Agra weaving which had been lost since Circa
1920.
Classic Oriental Carpets produce a range of types and qualities such as
Agra range, Amritsar, Sultanabad, Gabbeh and gun-tufted is also available.
All reproductions of such rugs, despite the extraordinary beauty, brilliant
artistry and skill of producing an 'Agra', can be personally made to any
size and colourway to suite you.
A vast array of these productions can be found on the following pages.
